SKOOKUM

Skookum was a Vancouver based music festival that was last held in 2019. The music played typically strayed more alternative and indie, and the event featured mainly Canadian entertainment.

Through visual research and development, students were tasked with creating a new poster and collateral to demonstrate typesetting skills and visual consistency.

Project Goal

  • To create a visually cohesive poster and schedule for a Vancouver-based arts, culture, food, dance, or music festival.

  • Consider demographic and messaging surrounding the event to inform design decisions.

  • Update yearly as a measure of my personal improvement in my design skills.

Design Rationale

  • Chose a colour palette and imagery to imitate and represent the colours of the Vancouver cityscape and natural wonders.

  • Illustrative, whimsical style that appeals to a younger demographic and includes humourous caricatures alluding to Vancouver pop-culture.

  • Employs modern, sans-serif typefaces for bold and legible typography.
